A full English translation of the International Committee against Stoning’s press release (Farsi below) on Sakineh’s suicide attempt will be out shortly. In summary, Sakineh Ashtiani has attempted suicide using a piece of broken glass. She was rushed to hospital and is still alive, but her psychological state is very bad, and she remains at high risk for another attempt. This is just another way in which the Islamic Republic is killing people in Iran. It should also be kept in mind that Sakineh Ashtiani’s lawyer, Houtan Kian, remains imprisoned, and his medications for his diabetes are still being withheld – a common form of torture and slow execution used by the Islamic Republic. I dedicate this blog to her and the many people around the world facing death by stoning, and to those who have already died by this barbaric method. Archives
